ABC Book Challenge: B

Like a lot of readers, I tend to just click the “To Read” button on Goodreads quite often but never seem to get to all of the books. So I have started sorting through them and will use the book letter challenge each week to add books that I have already read, as well as ones that are still on my TBR. The top book will be one I have already read and the second will be a book still on my TBR!

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys is one of my all time favorite books and I recommend it to everyone. The story focuses on the Vilkas family, who are living in Lithuania in 1941 before being deported after being recognized for anti-Soviet agendas. The main character Lina, who is 15 when the NKVD, the Soviet secret police, come one evening and put her family on a train. The book follows the family through their harrowing ordeals. Historical Fiction is one of my favorite genres and I particularly enjoy reading books set during World War II. This was the first book I had read that focused on a family from Lithuania being deported during World War II. It is a hard read during a lot of the book due to the horrific conditions, but I highly recommend reading this one if you haven’t!

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden has been on my TBR for quite a while and I actually received an ARC of the 2nd book in the series, The Girl in the Tower  last year and still have not started the series. It has a 4.13 rating on Goodreads and a lot of the bloggers I follow really seem to have loved it. It is a YA fantasy set in the Russian wildness and the cover is just beautiful. I am hoping to get to this one and hopefully the rest of this series in the next few months.

I would love to hear any thoughts anyone has about either of these books!
