Sorting Through My Goodreads TBR Shelf

If you follow my Instagram you will know that I buy a lot of books. I use the app from LibraryThing to keep track of what books I own since I buy so many used books, especially from thrift stores. I like the app because I can quickly check when I’m a thrift store or used bookstore to make sure I don’t buy duplicate books. So my current catalog in LibraryThing says I own 976 books and according to my Goodreads “TBR I Own” shelf, I have 384 unread books. And let me tell you I know that number is low because I haven’t updated it, I estimate I have somewhere between 450-550 unread books. I know, I know, I probably shouldn’t buy any more right now, but when books are $1.00 at thrift stores, it is hard to pass them up. Mind you, approximately 100 of the books in that catalog are my husbands books, so it’s really only like 875 haha. In addition to the book collecting and book buying problem, I have 1920 books listed as TBR on Goodreads. I have seen some other bloggers doing TBR de-clutter posts, so I decided to go through the first 20 books I added as TBR to Goodreads. Then I am planning on reading 1-2 of these first books I added to Goodreads (I joined in 2012, although I didn’t use it like I have in the last 2-3 years, but I did add books) every month! I only got into YA and YA fantasy in the last year, so most of these books are from other genres, which is great. I try to read a variety of genres, from YA to historical fiction romance and anything else I enjoy!

There are a lot of classic books on here that I have been meaning to read for a while. I am fairly certain that I have read Wuthering Heights and East of Eden while in high school, but since I don’t really remember anything about them and have them marked as TBR, they will be read/re-read. And luckily, because I buy so many books, I own all but 2 on this list. I think The Glass Castle and Before I Fall are the first books off this list I am planning on reading. One of my best friends just read The Glass Castle and said it was amazing. And I love Lauren Oliver so Before I Fall is a given. I think I get distracted by books especially when you have so many too choose from. I have been buying less in the last few months because my local library has finally started getting a bigger selection on their e-lending program. I frequently buy books because I don’t want to wait to read them, but I am trying to be patient. I have books that I pre-ordered that I was really excited about that came in March and I still haven’t read them. Anyone else have this problem? I really try to make TBR lists but I rarely ever follow them so I stopped. Any way, I doubt I can get all of these books read this year, but I am aiming for at least 1 of these a month. And I also am going to slowly go through the TBR shelf on Goodreads and delete the books I truly don’t think I will actually read!

I had to abandon my Goodreads, it was getting ridiculous! Now I try to forget about TBRs and just read the next book which catches my attention or remember.

That TBR looks really good too… I really want to read the Book Thief, but I haven’t gotten myself a copy yet. Good luck getting through it all!!

Haha I but most of them used at thrift stores or library sales so there are usually about $1.00 each. Our library has sales where the books are $2.00 for a whole bag! I only buy new books when I can’t find it used or it’s my favorite authors/series! But yes, I have a lot 🤓
