The picture on the post is of some of my favorite 2016 releases! I can’t wait for the sequels to This Savage Song, A Court of Mist and Fury and The Star Touched Queen!
I feel I have been quite ambitious this year setting my reading goal at 175 on Goodreads. But I did read 157 books this year, so I feel that it’s not too much of a stretch. I may have to change it back to 150, that way I won’t fail!
I don’t think I can make a TBR for the whole year; I always make a monthly TBR list and then I usually only end up reading one book from the list. This usually happens because I have library books on hold that come through or I receive an ARC I was hoping for. Often it happens because I just feel like reading a different genre. I tend to read mostly YA, NA, fantasy and thriller, but I also read non-fiction, historical fiction and just about everything in between. 2016 has taught me that I really do not like contemporary fiction, although I continue to try to force myself to read it. I do not enjoy it and besides a few exceptions, I believe I am going to pass on books in this genre. 2016 was also the first year that I began a book only blog and started receiving books from publishers, both digitally and physically. This is of course always so exciting and I am so grateful that publishers (and authors) have taken the time to reach out to be with review requests. However, I found that once publishers or their marketing companies has my mailing information, they just started sending books without inquiring first. Again, very grateful for this and it’s fun to get surprise book mail, but I also received a lot of books that I had zero interest in reading. I felt guilty if I didn’t read them, but it turned into this never ending ARC pile and I couldn’t get to my own TBR.
So I decided that this year I am not doing that. I have dedicated this month to catching up on all ARCs and review copies. I think I have 9-10 digital books through NetGalley and Edelweiss and 11 physical books. Some of the physical books are through blogging programs that I am apart of (Blogging for Books, BookLook Bloggers, etc.) or directly through publishers where I get to pick out with books I receive, which is amazing. Once I catch up on all of those, I will get to my own TBR list, which is enormous. So here are a some books that I own and plan on reading this year. Feel free to leave comments about any that you have read already!
–City of Lost Souls, City of Fallen Angels & Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
– Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas (I have read the first book already)
– Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi
–The Darkest Minds trilogy by Alexandra Bracken
–The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer
–The Woman in 6E trilogy by A.R. Torre
–The Kiss of Deception trilogy by Mary E. Pearson
–Out of The Easy by Ruta Sepetys
–Snow Like Ashes trilogy by Sara Raasch
–The Winner’s Curse trilogy by Marie Rutkoski
–Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
–Hopeless & Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover
And about 400 other unread books that I own! I do this thing where I buy the entire series before I even read the first book because I want to be able to start the next book immediately. It has yet to fail me, but I own over 400 unread books. I’m trying to not purchase any more books for a while, except the new releases I have pre-ordered!
