Maybe Someday follows two main characters, Sydney and Ridge. Sydney has been living what she thinks is the perfect life. She is a dedicated student, works at the campus library, lives with her best friend and has a great boyfriend. She spends her evenings study on her balcony listening to the guitar music coming from her neighbors balcony across the courtyard. When she finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her with her roommate and best friend, she packs up and leaves, although she has no place to go. Her mysterious music playing neighbor, Ridge, offers her a room in their apartment and they begin to write songs together for Ridge’s band, Sound of Cedar. As Colleen Hoover writes in the synopsis,  moving on is harder than Sydney expects, she can only hope, maybe someday.

Every time I read a book by Colleen Hoover I really am amazed at the stories she creates. This is the 4th book I have read by her and I am in the process of acquiring the rest because she is now one of my favorite authors. I have found reading in the New Adult genre, that there is a fine line between New Adult and 50 Shades of Grey (not my scene, but if you like it, no judgement) and Colleen Hoover has really mastered not crossing that line. Even in books like Ugly Love, when there was move sex than the rest of her books, it never crossed that line. At least for me. This book is no different, I loved the characters and I loved the story. I have heard a few negative comments about this book because of the story line. If you read my reviews, you know that I would rather leave you with a vague comment like that, than give you any spoilers. People often forget, when reading, that stories like this are fiction, but they also happen in real life. Obviously not the exact plot, but some of the major plot points. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad a book, it’s just realistic. Maybe that is why I have enjoyed her books so much.

This book is told from both Sydney and Ridge’s perspective, which I personally enjoy because you get to hear both side of the story. I like like both characters were fairly well developed and we get to know both of them in the present and also what their pasts were like. And also like most of her books, there is also some twist that I don’t see coming. Sometimes it’s something fairly small, but I just think, wow. If you enjoy New Adult or any of Colleen Hoover’s other books, I definitely recommend this one. I read Maybe Not right after I finished Maybe Someday (It is a 130 page novella that is based around the other two roommates at Ridge’s apartment, Warren and Bridgette) and I really enjoyed that as well. It is always nice to get more insight on a story and different perspectives. Happy reading!
